Tribute to Burl Ives
11:52 AM - Dec 11, 2012
In my opinion he stands for everything right about Christmas.

After faking his own death in 1995, he lays dormant most of the year but in December of each year the 103 year old entertainer hits the road with his miniature guitar and plays at Christmas pageants, retirement homes, holiday festivals, and other rural Christmas parties and get togethers.

Seems like there's a lot of grumpy people in this place and I believe renting a few Burl Ives movies and playing his famed chestnuts roasting over an open fire song could melt even the hardest hearts in here, maybe even Zeke, who I'm hearing a lot of bad stuff about from various posters.

Congrats to Gizmo

And as a novice, I posted this in a wrong forum. I meant to post this in the other forum.

Still wouldn't hurt some of you hard heads to read this after the way some of you acted during the coaching search with your phantom sources and such.
Congrats to Gizmo

Is he really still alive?

I have about 15 hours of Christmas shows and movies DVR'd that we are going through now, it's a great time of year.

Merry Christmas Trick Shot! If Burl Ives is still alive at 123 then I guess I can go a day on here without calling someone a "********" or a "*****".

No, he died in 1995. I have a source at the Cemetery that says it's legit.

I'm gonna need you to PM that source to Wildhog so he can confirm it's legitimacy.

###### no holiday spirit to be found in here except from one person, who seems to me to be sort of a ray of sunshine for this drab, negative place anyway.  Funny how this fellow, seemingly down on his luck from things I've heard about him, seems to be ready to get into the spirit of things.

Yes, Burl Ives is very much alive.  Elusive as bigfoot, he hasn't had his picture taken in 18 years.  I know a guy who said he saw him at the clarksville peach festival just last year singing little Christmas songs in 105 degree heat.  One guy tried to take his picture with a camera phone and Burl took after him like a bolt of lightning.  They say you could have put a shell his back and he could have won the terrapin derby OR diaper derby either one, that's how fast he was.

If a 103 year old man can sing Christmas songs on the hot streets of clarksville in mid-summer and chase around people trying to take his picture with that kind of gusto, then the rest of you yahoos can get a little Christmas spirit yourself.
Congrats to Gizmo

I like these date cookies my wife makes. Date cookies as in the fruit, not the date cookies I used to give the ladies so they "forget".

They sound like they wouldn't be good but they're awesome.
